Hi guys!
Is it Friday already? Well, then movie night it is! I had such a busy schedule today and pretty much all week, so a movie is just what I need to get my mind of everything! Just sit back and relax with a good movie. For this Friday night I have chosen the movie “The Intern” starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway. I love Robert De Niro and respect him as an actor. Then, Anne Hathaway is one of my favorite actresses ever since I first saw her on “The Princess Diaries” back in 2001 and also I found her perfect for this role.
As previously mentioned I had such a long week and for that I wanted something not too hard to watch, something that would relax me and even make me laugh. That is the reason why I made this choice. And as I sat comfortably in my bed, among a pile of cushions of every dimension, I held on one hand my cup of hot tea and with the other one, I pressed play.
THE PLOT
70-year-old widower Ben Whittaker has discovered that retirement isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Seizing an opportunity to get back in the game, he becomes a senior intern at an online fashion site, founded and run by Jules Ostin.
The movie lasted about two hours. I enjoyed every minute of it. And I have to admit it wasn’t just another light, sunny movie. I should have know better, with Meyers, a veteran writer-director (“Baby Boom,” “Father of the Bride,” “What Women Want,” “Something’s Gotta Give”) at the helm, plus Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway in the cast, co-piloting. It couldn’t have been just that.
At times, the movie was amusing and at times I was so moved by the way our character’s feelings and lives developed. Meyers is an expert at knowing when to tap the waterworks. The incidents that occured to their lives was so up to date, funny yet at times sad. In this 121 minutes story, the 21rst century people’s lives are presented, both pros and cons. Loneliness, friendship, betrayal, the will to live are just a few of the subjects this movie touches. We’re cruising along with Ben and Jules, in this amazing journey. We are witnessing how these two strangers with generation gap, manage to work together, learn from each other and eventually end up being best friends.
Experience never gets out of style.
Ben (Robert De Niro) reminds me of my grandpa, only he is a modern version of him. Trying to fill the void his late wife left in his life, he is experimenting with all sorts of hobbies, but when everything fails and bores him, he ends up being Jules'( Anne Hathaway) intern and collegue. I love how he finds a way to connect and communicate with the new generation of facebook and smartphones. I loved how clueless he seems to be about technology, yet achives to create a bond with the boys at the office, earn their respect and friendship. He brings old back in style and you gotta love him for that.
Jules ( Anne Hathaway) on the other hand, is a young woman, wife and mom, that runs a successful company with many rensposibilities and anxiety. Through her, the problems of the hard-working women of the 21st century are surfaced. How can a home be affected by the fact that a woman has to work long hours are highlighted and presented to us with a fun twist. But not always fun… Needless, to say more… I hope whoever has watched it loved it as much as i did, and whoever is about to watch it… enjoy!
It is a funny and touching and heartbreaking and just about perfect movie.

I loved this movie. It’s more than your average comedy movie. It was great to see Ben makes an effort to bridge that gap between the young and the old. And the young generation reciprocates that. 🙂
Loved the review ! So on point.
