Adam’s Rib (1949)
Starring: Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn
THE PLOT
Domestic and professional tensions mount when a husband and wife work as opposing lawyers in a case involving a woman who shot her husband.
MY THOUGHTS
Let me start by saying that this is one of my top favorite movies. It’s has a witty humor and it’s so amusing, that honestly, i just can’t stop laughing during the whole thing! It all starts when Adam (Spencer Tracy) and Amanda (Katharine Hepburn) Bonner, a married couple that are both lawyers, decide to undertake a case that will bring them face to face in court. Amanda takes over the wife, who shot her husband, because he was unfaithful and Adam gets the unfaithful and injured husband.
A line of hilarious events take place on and off the trial, as day by day Adam and Amanda fight for their client’s innocence. The court’s tension doesn’t take long to enter the threshold of their penthouse and the fun continues as they both try to prove who wears the pants at home.
It touches a sensitive subject, the role and position a woman holds in society. It deals with the advantages that men had over women, a subject that is still up to date. Not only does it achieve to make an irritating matter the funniest ever, it also makes you fall in love with Adam and Amanda’s characters and relationship.
I highly recommend this one, you are going to have a blast watching it. I have watched it like dozens of times and still enjoy so much. Warning: You are going to laugh your hearts out! I’d love to know if you have seen this one or maybe planning to watch it and if something like this would even interest you.
Awesome review Kat! This and Desk Set have always been by two favorite Tracy & Hepburn movies!
